There is nothing better than curling up on a cold winter’s evening with a great book and a mug of hot chocolate. We’re sharing our top five Christmas tales for little ones so the whole family can enjoy story time this festive season.
The Jolly Postman Christmas by Allan Ahlberg
A childhood favourite for many of us at Newbie. It's Christmas Eve and the Jolly Postman is delivering letters to various fairy-tale characters - there's a card for Baby Bear, a game appropriately called 'Beware' for Red Riding Hood from Mr Wolf, a get-well jigsaw for Humpty Dumpty and three more surprise envelopes containing letters and cards. Everyone's favourite postman keeps on peddling his bicycle into everybody's hearts.
A Christmas Carol by Quentin Blake
The Classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, a grumpy mean man who, through a series of ghostly visits, learns the value of charity, humour and love. Quentin Blake’s beautifully illustrated edition is our favourite version of this old favourite.
The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher
The Christmasaurus is about a boy named William Trundle, and a dinosaur, the Christmasaurus and is the story of how they meet one Christmas Eve and have a magical adventure. It explores friendship and families, sleigh bells and Santa, singing elves and flying reindeer, music and magic. This book is all about discovering your heart's true desire, and learning that the impossible might just be possible. The perfect sentiment for Christmas this year.
How Winston Delivered Christmas by Alex T Smith
We love our animal friends here at Newbie and we couldn’t resist including this story of a brave little mouse named Winston who sets out on an adventure on Christmas Eve. Featuring beautiful artwork and Christmas activities to make-and-do throughout, this gorgeous book is sure to become a festive family tradition that will be enjoyed year after year.
Mog’s Christmas by Judith Kerr
Another favourite are the tales of Mog the Cat. The house is full of strange activity, there are new noises and new smells, and a tree being brought in from the outside! Concerned by all the strange going on's, Mog escapes to the roof, and there she stays…until, unexpectedly, she returns with a bump and discovers a whole new house!
Happy Christmas reading.
