First little steps of friendship

These first little steps mark the beginning of friendship and new adventures, through puddles, playgrounds and passing seasons. Because the best stories are told together.

About Kavat

For over eighty years, Kavat has stood for high quality, solid craftsmanship, and continuous innovation in shoemaking. The journey began as early as 1945 in a small shoe factory in Kumla, where the foundation for the brand’s strong heritage was laid. With a clear vision of creating durable and high‑quality footwear, Ragnar Karlsson founded Skofabriken Ymer – the beginning of what is today Kavat, a well‑known name in Swedish quality footwear.

What helps you choose the best baby walking shoes and first steps shoes?

If you are looking for baby walking shoes, first steps shoes or soft baby shoes, it helps to understand what supports small feet as they learn to walk. Good first walking shoes are steady, flexible and shaped so the foot can move in a natural line. Many families start with pre walkers shoes for careful early steps, or use crawling shoes and cruising shoes during the stage between sitting and confident walking. Soft leather, light soles and simple closures make these shoes easy for everyday use, and they work well outdoors too.

Choosing the right fit matters. A first walking shoe should follow the shape of the foot and give gentle space for growing toes. Our size guide explains how to measure the foot and understand inner measurements, so you can select a safe and natural fit for new walkers. This helps when choosing baby first shoes or baby first walking shoes for early adventures.

In this selection, Newbie x Kavat adds leather sandals, toddler sandals and supportive first walkers for everyday wear. Hällevik is a light sandal for warmer days, while Edsbro offers a steadier feel with a slightly narrower fit.

These baby and toddler shoes follow children from first steps to outdoor play. With simple care, the leather softens over time and stays comfortable through many seasons.
